New Ramp

Alf.
Have you seen this man? His name is Alf Peacock and he is the contractor who is building our new ramp for us on the meadow trail. He also built our barn complex for us, two years ago.

Work has just begun on this large project to provide access for our electric buggy around the Meadow Trail. The first earthworks have been dug and some concrete foundations laid to take metal supports for the raised sections of the path. Alf is trying to introduce the new ramp, which will look like the boardwalk on the same trail, without having to close the path. We will keep the steps as well.

The work has been designed and sponsored by the Friends of Paxton Pits with additional funding from the Cooperative Society in St Neots and from the family and friends of Paul Townsend as part of a wider scheme to improve access and viewing on the site.

Because the Meadow is part of our Site of Special Scientific Interest and is in the flood-plain of the Great Ouse, we had to get permissions from Natural England and the Environment Agency as well as Huntingdonshire District Council.

If you want to see drawings, please ask the rangers at the Visitors' Centre.
