Visit by Councillors

On Friday 18th October the rangers welcomed three District Councillors and Jo Lancaster, our new Managing Director, to the Reserve. This was a great opportunity for us to show off what we have here, in terms of  scenery and wildlife, volunteers, partnership and the community. We spent a while over sandwiches discussing the extension to the reserve and our partnership with the Friends and with the Wildlife Trust, then we took a tour of the Heron Trail.

I expected  the visit to be a bit intimidating with loads of awkward questions being put to us, but we soon realised that we were among friends who were supportive of the work we do. I really enjoyed showing them round Paxton Pits and I heard that their visits to Holt Island in St Ives and our tree-nursery in Godmanchester were just as positive.

We all know that the District Council faces some difficult decisions about cuts and savings over the next few years and so on this visit to our sites it was even more important than ever to make a good impression. I hope we did!
